Doodling an afternoon away…

As I didn’t have anything of any great importance planned today, I thought I’d just spend the time mucking around on the computer, and since I couldn’t get the damn audiobook I just downloaded from audible.com to play because I apparently have too many devices authorized (and because their website is so broken and the tool which they’ve tried to write to help one correct that problem doesn’t work and their customer service department is closed, and . . .), I thought I’d play with some podcasts.

I stumbled across the link to ipodder.org last week in one or another of the blogs I regularly read, and the idea sounded interesting, so I downloaded an application called Nimiq from nimiq.nl This is basically an RSS aggregator tuned to parse feeds and extract the podcast container information from the feed. It then downloads the file(s) and adds the playlist to iTunes. (Note: As I’ve yet to pick up the firewire PCI card from my brother, I can’t tell you how well the transfer to iPod feature works).

Nimiq comes with a fairly large OPML file of feeds for one to try out, but if those aren’t enough, there is a podcast directory at podcast.net. I’ve not yet had the time to check whether their information is merely a mirror of the sites/podcasts contained in the Nimiq OPML file yet, but it never hurts to have multiple resources.

Thus far I’ve listened to the Leo Laporte’s last radio show from KPI, and the last episode of Off the Hook, from 2600.com.
