Christmas came a little early this year. On Friday of last week, I received a nice little package from Nextel which contained my new NBB card!
As is to be expected, I immediately dropped everything else I was working on, broke out the laptop, installed the drivers and the card, and voila! I was online without a hitch. A few quick test downloads showed that I was getting a pretty steady 140-150 KB/s throughput! Amazing… I have been using the Nextel iM1100 card for a little over a year now, and as you all know, it tops out at a whopping 19,200 bits/second. Even the service from Verizon Wireless and Sprint only offer a max spead of 128 Kbps. Clearly this new Nextel service smokes all of the competitors.
The only downside? It doesn’t yet want to work at my home, but I’m sure that coverage is coming as they expand their coverage outward from the Raleigh area. When it does, it will be a hard choice between switching my entire network over to NBB, or staying with my current (pathetically slow) Sprint DSL.
